Hogs Post Mixed Action on Thursday

Lean hog futures started off 2025 with mixed trade as nearbys were down a tick to 15 cents and other contracts up 22 to 37 cents. The national average base hog negotiated price was reported at $80.08 on Thursday afternoon, steady with the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was reported at $84.27 on December 30, down 8 cents from the previous day.

USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout value was 98 cents lower in the Thursday PM report at $89.32 per cwt. The picnic, ham, and belly primals were all reported lower, with the latter leading the way, down $8.83. Federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 489,000 for Thursday, bringing the weekly total to 1.381 million head. That was up 230,000 head from last week but down 65,390 head from the same time last year.

Apr 25 Hogs  closed at $86.550, down $0.025

May 25 Hogs  closed at $91.200, up $0.225,
